Meet the Team
Meet the people behind Autotechnics
Viv Potter, left school with the intention of working with cars, but, a fortunate twist of fate meant that he was offered an aircraft engineering apprenticeship with the Royal Navy. Fast jets and Helicopters increased the desire to understand all things electronic as well as mechanical.
Viv looks back at this time, grateful that he was working with ""cutting edge' technology, and being exposed to computer controlled fuel systems, complex turbine engines, gearbox systems and computer controlled hydraulic systems.
These all seemed a far cry from the car technology of the day. Exacting standards, procedures and an uncompromising approach to achieving perfection was the norm.
Viv always kept in touch with car technology and could see how the aircraft systems preceded advancements in the automotive field and linked aviation technology with that used in formula 1. Viv left the Royal Navy after 11 years to utilize his experience in aircraft engineering in Automotive technology to launch Autotechnics.
Years later and after earning the reputation of being the leading motoring technical experts in the South, Autotechnics have expanded their operation to include a branch at Blandford. They correctly identified that keeping up with technology was going to dictate the success of future workshops.
Not only do Autotechnics strive to be the best in technical excellence, they also apply the same standards to their whole business operation, ensuring that customer care is of paramount importance.
Jane has been a part owner in the business since it started in 1990. Before working at Autotechnics Jane gained a wealth of experience from being an Assistant Manager of a Cheltenham and Gloucester building society.
In her spare time Jane is busy helping her husband Keith with his Shepherd Hut business in the Todber countryside and walking their boxer dog Ted.
Sarah has been part of the team here at Autotechnics since September 2014. Alongside her duties as receptionist she is also customer chauffeur and chief tea maker (if you ask her nicely!).
Sarah has a keen interest in marketing and public relations and has split her original role as receptionist to manage the Autotechnics marketing campaign which has included creating and managing our Twitter account, creating interesting content for our Facebook page and coming up with adverts, offers and various promotions.
In Sarah's spare time she is pursuing her passion to become a singer and spends time with her Pomeranian dog and three Persian cats.
Ben spent 3 years at Mid Kent College full time and achieved a BTEC National Diploma in Motor Vehicle Engineering. Ben then spent 4 years with franchised dealerships in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Ben moved from Tunbridge Wells with his family in 2002 and gained a wealth of experience with the Sewards group of garages until joining Autotechnics in Autumn 2005.
Since then Ben has continued his professional development with attending several Bosch training courses as part of the Bosch Technician program. Ben has gained many years experience with the Volkswagen Audi group but has also developed great knowledge and ability with the Land Rover group of vehicles which cross over into his hobby, looking after his series 2 Land Rover.
Away from work Ben enjoys family life and his trusty ""Landy'.
Matt left school and joined a local Peugeot main dealer as an Apprentice technician. He carried out a 3 year block release apprenticeship at Bridgwater College. After completing his apprenticeship and during the next 13 years, Matt went on to complete further training at the Peugeot training centre in Coventry.
He was awarded the ATA Diagnostic technician (Automotive Technician Accreditation AT3107075751) having passed all the courses and utilising those skills in the Peugeot Citroen main dealership.
In 2014 Matt joined us at Autotechnics and has since extended his skills by attending several courses in the Bosch Diagnostic training program.
Matt is our ""go to Man' with all things French, which is particularly useful now that we are seeing manufacturers like Mini, BMW, Ford, and Volvo using French engines in their vehicles.
Matt's hobbies include football, running, DIY and Dad duties!
Hubert joined our team of VW Audi, BMW and Mercedes technicians in November 2018.
His CV is impressive which includes, amongst other accolades, growing up at the family owned Audi franchised garage in Germany. Most recently, Hubert has worked for Mercedes Benz in Poole for 9 years as a diagnostic technician where his skill was charged at £160 per hour.
Hubert brings a raft of experience in both VAG and Mercedes to compliment our Award winning Bosch and VW Audi excellence and has to be absolute value at our modest hourly rate whilst being fully supported with technical information, diagnostic equipment and Bosch.
Hubert can offer our customers a realistic saving of over £100 per hour over and above the main dealer rate. Who's not going to love that?!
Hubert enjoys family time when not at work and his hobbies include carp fishing, travelling and everything to do with cars.
